Lesson: Cup and Napkin
Lesson: Cup and Napkin
- Students will create a sketch of the cup and napkin in pencil.
- Students will then begin adding the lightest values to the cup and the ball. Students should leave the reflection in the cup white for this first step.
- Next students will begin adding mid range values to their pictures.
- Finally students will add the deep tones of the shadows. Students will smooth out their values with a stump.
How to draw the cup and Napkin
Create the sketch in pencil. Make sure you keep your drawing very light in the beginning. Look for basic shapes in the objects you are drawing.
Slowly add darker values to your cup. Keep the highlight white for this step.
Begin adding your deeper tones to the cup. Chiaroscuro - placing extreme dark next to light values.
Now begin adding values to your napkin.
Start to darken your shadows on napkin. Add values to your highlight. Use eraser to create a lighter highlight in the middle of cup.
Finish your drawing by using a stump to blend your values. Make sure to soften your shadow on the table.
